Sheila, I bought a Nikon (AF Kikkor) 50mm f/1.4 lens - I wanted to start getting bokeh (blurry background right?), and better photos of the boys at night when the only light is my crummy house lighting. I've not been happy with the results so far, but I'm still experimenting...
That's an awesome lens!! I have that lens and I love it!! It's great for portraits. You can get lovely bokeh with it. I personally don't like shooting at night because of the minimal lighting and I don't like using flash. You have to jack up your ISO but the photos would then be grainy. It's best to shoot during the day with natural light :) Like this photo you took...it's quite nice! Did you process it at all with photoshop?

I have not processed it all in Photoshop, I need to learn! 99% of my photos are straight out of the camera.
Then you did especially well! Focus looks great and color looks nice. Photoshop can make it even look better. It's an awesome software.
